‘Tables en Fête’ (tables in celebration) is a contest that already now for the last nine years, has enabled first-year students in the International Hotel and Restaurant Management program to express their creativity and professionalism regarding the arts of the table through this group project.
For these students organized in teams of 8, this involves composing tables for two to illustrate a specific theme while creating an atmosphere of celebration.
The theme that inspired them this year was “Commensality – the history of dining”. The tables must be exploitable in a restaurant situation, and as such, are judged by a jury that attributes as much importance to their professionalism as to their creativity. Yann Fabès, Director of the Superior School of Art and Design in Saint-Etienne, Pascal Billard – Deputy director of the Plaza Athénée, Arnaud Bernollin from Cuisines Bernollin, Mauricio Clavero Kozlowski – artistic director at Haviland, Jacotte Brazier and other prominent members of the jury took their mission very seriously: detecting the best three concepts and thereby awarding the first three prizes: the Creativity Prize, the Professional Prize and the Grand Prize.
The Creativity Prize was awarded to the table ‘Métaphore de la mise en abîme’, whose mirror effect worked on the notion of ideas. The Professional prize was awarded to ‘L’Entremetteuse’, whose oval-like form created a warm and intimate ambiance. Finally, the Grand Prize, ‘The Nest Wave’ gave recognition to a rectangular table but whose originality lies in the fact that it remains open to the outside.
